Training
Our goal is to foster a rigorous and supportive environment where every trainee develops the critical thinking, technical mastery, and professional skills necessary to lead a successful career in the scientific workforce. We consider ourselves lucky to be able to tackle some of the world’s most interesting questions, and we take our responsibility to train the next generation of scientists seriously!
Techniques
We offer hands-on training across diverse methodologies in both yeast and human model systems. Trainees can tailor their toolkit based on their research questions and long-term career goals, with opportunities to master:
- Biochemistry & Biophysics: Protein purification, classical biochemistry, and single-molecule fluorescence techniques.
- Genomic Integrity & DNA Architecture: Specialized assays to evaluate DNA damage and replication dynamics, including DNA combing and comet assays.
- Cellular & Molecular Biology: Yeast and human genetics, mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, cell biology, and advanced microscopy.
- Computational & Structural Biology: Protein structure prediction, protein design, molecular modeling, and simulation.
Developing Independent Scientists
We train lab members to become independent scientists capable of identifying critical questions and developing rigorous, reproducible methodologies, with a special emphasis on the value of this work for the scientific and medical communities.
Individual Development Plans
To ensure every lab member achieves their professional goals, all lab members develop Individual Development Plans (IDPs).
The IDP serves as an active roadmap designed to track:
- Core Competencies: Tracking research skills and scientific communication
- Milestones: Aligning short- and long-term research goals
- Career Alignment: Preparing for student’s career-of-choice
- Mentorship: Regular, structured feedback
